Deep Tissue Massage

Deep tissue massage is a procedure that focuses on aligning connective tissues, known as fascia, and deep muscles. Areas that suffer from chronic tenseness, such as the shoulders, low back and neck can benefit greatly from a deep tissue massage manipulation. While deep tissue massage undertakes many of the same strokes that are found in classic massage therapy, the therapist uses pressure that is deeper while accompanied by slower movement. It is designed to provide more powerful results than a standard massage.

Treatment

Massage therapists typically use their hands for such massages, but if necessary to apply deeper pressure, forearms, feet and elbows can be used during the process. Deep tissue massage can be used to treat a variety of disorders. While there may be some slight discomfort or pain at certain points during the massage, it should not be unbearable. If the pain and discomfort are too intense, notify the therapist so proper adjustments can be made. After a deep tissue massage, rehydrate by drinking plenty of water because the process releases a lot of toxins.

Conditions

Deep Tissue Massage is used as a form of treatment for injury or tension. Adhesions are bands of tendons, ligaments and muscles that are rigid.  Adhesions result in pain, inflamed tissue and limited mobility. Deep tissue massage can easily break down adhesions so normal movement can be restored and so pain can be relieved or even eliminated.Combining a deep tissue massage with a chiropractic adjustment can improve your results significantly. Using deep tissue massage in conjunction with a spinal adjustment are complementary to one another. They relax muscles and align the spine in a way that assists keeping the alignment as it should be.
